- Description
- Blaenavon was a major centre of iron production using local ore.
The Big Pit National Coal Museum features many above and below ground attractions, including the miners’ bath house, a forge and the colliery engine house, the remains of the Blaenavon Ironworks and the mining pit.
The National Slate Museum is dedicated to the skills and artistry of generations of quarry workers. The Museum is located in the former workshops of the Dinorwic slate quarry. It features an interactive exhibition and has the largest working waterwheel in mainland Britain.
The National Waterfront Museum in Swansea is dedicated to the Industrial Revolution and innovation thanks to a state-of-the-art interactive exhibition.
The Big Pit National Coal Museum, the National Slate Museum and the National Waterfront Museum are part of National Museum Wales, the Welsh Government sponsored charitable body comprising seven museums.
The Big Pit National Coal Museum, the National Slate Museum and the National Waterfront Museum are Anchor Points of the European Route of Industrial Heritage.
