Description
The Abbey of Royaumont is a former Cistercian monastery built between 1228 and 1235 under the aegis of Saint Louis, and was then one of the most important abbeys in France. It remained a Cistercian site until the French Revolution, when it was sold as a national property to become a textile plant. In 1905, the Goüin family bought the site. In 1964, the Royaumont Foundation was entrusted with the management of the former monastery, today a cultural centre (www.cister.net/abbayes/fr/118/royaumont).
