Back Second Regional Meeting of Heads of Cybercrime Units

From 23 to 25 November, the OCWAR-C project organised the Second Regional Meeting of Heads of Cybercrime Units of the ECOWAS region to share experience, explore communalities regarding legal, technical and organisational challenges to cooperation in the region and beyond.

Representatives from Benin, Cabo Verde, Cote d'Ivoire, the Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea Bissau, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Togo shared information on country developments and new types of cybercrime in the region. They also offered insights to explore possibilities for regional cooperation to overcome blockages to cooperation across the region.

The Council of Europe intervened on how the provisions of the Convention on Cybercrime and its Second Additional Protocol enhance co-operation and offer the tool for disclosure of electronic evidence, such as direct cooperation with service providers and registrars, effective means to obtain subscriber information and traffic data, immediate cooperation in emergencies or joint investigations.
