Andrea Varrella is the Research and Child Rights Monitoring Manager at ECPAT International, based in Bangkok, Thailand. She joined ECPAT International in mid-2016 following a short assignment with the United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute. During her time at ECPAT, Andrea has been coordinating multi-country research projects and providing legal expertise to the organisation and its network of civil society organisations working to end the sexual exploitation of children. Among relevant projects and activities, Andrea currently manages the ECPAT’s component of the second iteration of the Disrupting Harm project on online child sexual exploitation and abuse focusing specifically on legal and policy analyses on online child sexual exploitation and abuse. She leads ECPAT’s Access to Justice initiative, as well as the production of ECPAT country overviews on sexual exploitation and abuse of children and works on multiple research projects involving conversations with survivors, qualitative interviews with professionals, and surveys in different geographical contexts and topics. Andrea holds an LL.M in International and European Law as well as a Master’s Degree in International Protection of Human Rights.
