Organised by the CyberEast joint project of the European Union and of the Council of Europe, in partnership with the Academy of Justice of Armenia, the Advanced Cybercrime and Electronic Evidence Training for Judges and Prosecutors was held between 14-17 March 2023 in Yerevan, Armenia.
The scope of the advanced training course was to enhance the capacities of judges and prosecutors in Armenia with regards to the nature of cybercrimes, the legislation available, and the instruments for international cooperation required to handle cases of cybercrimes, with a focus on the Council of Europe Convention on Cybercrime (the Budapest Convention) and its First and Second additional protocols.
Over 20 judges, prosecutors, investigators and judicial trainers from several regions of Armenia participated in the four-day course, which was facilitated by two Council of Europe experts. The exercise was finalised with a mock trial that led the participants through the entire process of investigation, from the initial complaint to a court exercise, including sufficient legal grounds and evidence for successful adjudication.
The CyberEast project will continue to deliver further sustainable Judicial Training Programmes on Cybercrime and Electronic evidence, designed to assist judges, magistrates and prosecutors of the Eastern Partnership in the investigation and adjudication of respective criminal cases.
