CyberSEE: Advanced Training for Police and Prosecution on Investigation and Seizure of Cryptocurrencies

From 12 to 14 June, the European Union-Council of Europe joint project CyberSEE, in close cooperation with OSCE Mission to Serbia and the Serbian Ministry of Interior, Service for Combating High-Tech Crime, organised the Advanced Training for Police and Prosecution on Investigation and Seizure of Cryptocurrencies.

Tailored for Serbian cybercrime investigators, prosecutors and digital forensics experts, the training addressed the suspect cryptocurrencies transactions from both investigative and confiscation perspectives. The course included interactive sessions such as exercises, practical case studies, guided discussions and presentations. The activity is the first of a planned series of three advanced courses for 2024, designed to enhance the practical skills of the criminal justice practitioners on virtual currencies.

The participants were guided by their national trainers along various methods for investigating illicit transactions and seizing virtual currencies through hands-on exercises with existing tools and techniques. They also practiced recognising different types of wallets and their security features, using monitoring and forensic tools to track and analyse transactions, while operating within the legal and regulatory framework on cryptocurrencies in Serbia.

The CyberSEE project will continue to support the organisation of specialised trainings by domestic trainers aimed to strengthen the capacities of the criminal justice authorities in investigating cryptocurrencies.
