The CyberSouth project - a joint endeavour of the Council of Europe and European Union - and Jordanian national institutions organised a national conference on cybercrime during 20 and 21 June 2023, in Amman, Jordan.
The event offered the opportunity to take stock of the steps undertaken and results achieved to address cybercrime in recent years. Among the topics discussed were: threats and trends on cybercrime; the role of national policy makers in ensuring a sound legal framework in line with international standards; interagency co-operation on cybercrime and electronic evidence; co-operation tools offered by the Convention on Cybercrime (Budapest Convention) and its Second Additional Protocol; the role of 24/7 network and LEA and ISP co-operation; and investigating and seizing cryptocurrencies.
Participants from the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship, the National Cybersecurity Center, Jordan Armed Forces, the Central Bank, the Telecommunication Regulatory Commission, Law Enforcement Agencies, Internet Service Providers and the private sector shared information on their activities and priorities, highlighting that national coordination improved during the last 3 years and that more resources will be allocated to take action against cybercrime.
