The GLACY+ project supported the organization of an Advisory workshop on cybercrime legislation, in Mexico, on 10th November 2023, hosted by the Senate of Mexico and attended by senators and other representatives of Mexican public institutions, civil society and the private sector.
The Council of Europe’s experts offered a comprehensive perspective on cybercrime legislation based on the Convention on Cybercrime (Budapest Convention) with a view of encouraging Mexico to complete its accession to this treaty and to improve its internal legislation in line with the convention’s provisions.
Representatives of the legislative branch from Chile and Costa Rica, two priority countries of the GLACY+ project, shared their respective experience and lessons learned from developing national policies and legislation to address cybercrime.
Participants in the workshop manifested interest in the improvement of the national legislative framework and gained further insights on the distinct and complementary approaches to cybercrime and cybersecurity.
The Council of Europe will continue to support Mexico to take the next steps to become a Party to the Budapest Convention, through its capacity building projects.
