On 23-24 of March an online workshop was organised by the GLACY+ project for the key stakeholders from the Philippines in support of the finalisation of the country’s draft National Cybercrime Strategy. The activity was initiated by the Philippines authorities and follows an advisory mission in 2019, where a draft strategy was analysed and recommendations for further improvement were provided, also with the assistance of the GLACY+ project.
The workshop was opened by Associate Justice Jose Midas Marquez from the Supreme Court of the Philippines, and GLACY+ Country Coordinator for the Philippines, and the Deputy Head of the Delegation of the European Union to the Philippines, who underlined how a holistic strategy can guide and support effective action to tackle cybercrime in the Philippines.
The first day of the meeting was an open discussion on the state of play of the current draft, based on the findings and recommendations of the desk review conducted by the Council of Europe experts. The second day of the workshop concentrated on refining the formulation, adoption, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the draft strategy.
GLACY+ will continue to support the finalisation of the draft strategy, which is intended to be adopted by July 2022.
In the light of current events, strengthening capacities on cybercrime and cybersecurity is more important than ever.
