Japan makes a further voluntary contribution to the Octopus Project

The Government of Japan has made a voluntary contribution of €20,000 to support the Council of Europe action against cybercrime.

The agreement was signed on 10 September 2024 by Ambassador Hiroyuki Uchida, Consul General of Japan and Bjørn Berge, Deputy Secretary General of the Council of Europe.

The Octopus Project, based on voluntary contributions from State Parties and Observers to the Convention on Cybercrime (Budapest Convention), aims to support countries worldwide in strengthening their criminal justice capacities in line with this Treaty, its protocols and related standards.

Japan is a Party to the Convention on Cybercrime since 2012, being one of the 46 states to have signed the Second Additional Protocol and the second state to have also ratified it.

The Council of Europe gratefully acknowledges the contribution of Japan to the Octopus Project.
