Back Project Steering Committee and attendance of the EuroDIG 2017 in Tallinn

Tallinn, Estonia ,

The Annual Conference of the European Dialogue on Internet Governance (EuroDIG), held on 6-7 June in Tallinn, Estonia, was preceded by a pre-event organized by the Cybercrime Programme Office of the Council of Europe (Bucharest, Romania). The pre-event was held in the form of a Steering Committee and Planning Meeting of the Cybercrime@EAP II and Cybercrime@EAP III projects, which focus on matters of international cooperation and public-private partnerships in cybercrime and electronic evidence. The project management engaged project partners from Estonia and Europol, as well as project country teams, to critically assess the performance against project objectives, identify the major gaps that could be addressed until the end of the project, and re-engage project teams and partners into discussion about the future activities that could take advantage of the expected project achievements.

This was also an opportunity for project teams to attend 10th Annual Conference of the European Dialogue on Internet Governance (EuroDIG), where themes of Internet governance, data jurisdiction and cooperation on security of cyberspace, discussed throughout EuroDIG 2017, have direct relevance to international cooperation in terms of access to electronic evidence beyond national jurisdictions, and serving as large forum for public-private cooperation and partnerships between the public sector and the Internet industry. During the EuroDIG Plenary I, the Cybercrime Programme Office representative contributed as a key speaker, commenting on the overall challenges of criminal justice response to the challenges of cyberspace, trust as an issue hampering law enforcement action against cybercrime, and the need to build upon and properly use all opportunities accorded by current regulations and standards, such as the Budapest Convention on Cybercrime.
