Regional Organised Crime Conference

The 17th Edition of the Regional Conference on Combatting Organized Crime took place on 14-17 November, in Poiana Brasov, Romania. The Conference gathered high representatives of law enforcement agencies of the European Union, South-eastern Europe and Eastern partnership countries, international organizations, such as Council of Europe, SELEC, EUROPOL, as well as delegates from the USA.

The event benefited from the participation of experts on combating organized crime from the   Romanian National Police (DCCO), Public Ministry (DIICOT), but also from the Romanian CERT (DNSSC), the private sector, as well as internal affairs attachés and liaison officers present in Romania.

This year edition of the Conference focused on the trends and treats of organised crime and the impact of new technologies, aiming to increase the knowledge of criminal justice representatives on topics ranging from cybercrime and digital evidence to channels of cooperation, trafficking in human beings, irregular migration, counter proliferation, terrorism and trafficking of drugs. Delegates of specialized units of Serbia, Turkiye, Albania, Ukraine and Moldova shared their experience in view of future operational cooperation.

The representative of the Cybercrime Programme Office (C-PROC) presented the international legal standards of the Budapest Convention, the capacity building support actions provided in the region by iPROCEEDS-2 project and the 24/7 Network of contact points, including their new responsibilities under the Second Additional Protocol to the Budapest Convention. The iPROCEEDS-2 project will continue to offer capacity building support to South Eastern Europe and Türkiye and to facilitate international cooperation between cybercrime units.
