US makes a voluntary contribution to the Octopus Project: CYBERKOP

The Government of the United States of America has made a voluntary contribution in the amount of USD 799,110 to the Council of Europe action on cybercrime through the Octopus Project.

While the Octopus Project has a global geographical scope, the present action is specifically designed to support the authorities of Kosovo*. Building on achievements to date, including through the joint EU/CoE regional iPROCEEDS-2 and preceding projects, CYBERKOP – Enhanced action on cybercrime and electronic evidence in Kosovo* is aimed at supporting the authorities through a set of activities dedicated to further strengthen the domestic legislation and criminal justice capacities on cybercrime and electronic evidence,  in line with the standards of the Convention on Cybercrime (Budapest Convention) and its Second Additional Protocol. CYBERKOP will concentrate on three levels: legislation, capacity building for investigation, prosecution and adjudication as well as public/private and international co-operation.

The project will be implemented for 30 months. A dedicated project team from of the Council of Europe will support the implementation of this action, in close partnership with the US State Department, the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs, domestic teams and project partners.

 

*All references to Kosovo, whether to the territory, institutions, or population, in this text shall be understood in full compliance with United Nations’ Security Council Resolution 1244 and without prejudice to the status of Kosovo.
