On 23 of September 2024, the CyberSPEX project, a joint initiative of the European Commission and the Council of Europe, held an online workshop aimed at enriching the knowledge of the representatives of the EU Member States on the tools for enhanced co-operation on cybercrime and electronic evidence offered by the Second Additional protocol (2AP).
Among the participants were legislators, law enforcement officials, and judicial practitioners, as well as representatives of the relevant EU agencies such as Europol, Eurojust, CEPOL and the European Judicial Cybercrime Network.
The workshop addressed the expedited disclosure of stored computer data (Article 9) and emergency mutual assistance measures (Article 10) and sought inputs from the participants on legislative measures and other requirements for effective implementation of these provisions at the national level. Moreover, practices of different countries on engaging on international co-operation on cybercrime and electronic evidence under the current international legal standards as well as the new tools offered by the 2AP were shared along with challenges faced.
The workshop is part of a broader effort undertook by the CyberSPEX project to support EU Member States in signing, ratifying, and implementing the Second Additional Protocol, therefore Further capacity building support will be provided under the project.
