The Cybercrime Programme Office of the Council of Europe (C-PROC) supported the participation of over 60 participants from 37 countries to the European Cybercrime Centre’s Annual Conference held at the Europol Headquarters in The Hague. The theme of the 2023 edition was “10 Years of Joint Support to Operations Against Cybercrime – Building Tomorrow’s Partnerships”.
In total, around 400 cybersecurity experts, representatives of law enforcement agencies, operational actors and members of the private sector analysed best practices to build synergies and to develop innovative solutions that can effectively address the complexities of the current cyber threat landscape.
Discussions provided insight into trends and threats in digital security, including approaches to ransomware resilience, the impact of rapid AI advancements on digital investigations and ways to adequately protect children from abuse, online and offline.
A dedicated panel titled “Digital Investigations in an Age of International Turbulence: The Ukrainian Experience” explored the impact of Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine on cybercrime/cybersecurity incidents.
“Considering the unique practical experience gained in this war, Ukraine is eager to act as an active contributor to improve international cybersecurity and to create effective mechanisms to deter the aggressive behaviour of states in cyberspace,“ declared Viktoriia Lobach from the Cyber Security Department of the Security Service of Ukraine.
The conference, which marked the 10-year anniversary of the Cybercrime Centre at Europol, provided the opportunity to assess major achievements and to set strategic priorities for increasing investigative capacities.
