Back iPROCEEDS-2: Judges and prosecutors from Serbia attend trainings on international co-operation, cybercrime investigations and electronic evidence

Belgrade, Serbia ,

A Specialised Judicial Training Course on International Co-operation for Serbian judges and prosecutors was delivered within the framework of the EU-CoE Joint Project iPROCEEDS-2 between 12 and 14 June 2023. Two workshops on Current Challenges on Cybercrime Investigations and on Cybercrime and Electronic Evidence followed on  14 and 15 June, respectively.

The training was addressed to magistrates specialised in cybercrime cases or international judicial co-operation and to representatives of the Justice Academy.  This exercise aimed to refine the participants’ knowledge regarding the existing legal framework and international practice for cross-border co-operation in cybercrime cases, as well as the exchange of electronic evidence, according to the Convention on Cybercrime (Budapest Convention) and its Second Additional Protocol.

The Workshop on Current Challenges on Cybercrime Investigations raised the magistrates’ level of understanding of the tools and provisions to investigate cybercrime cases and walked them progressively through the challenges posed by the hidden face of the Internet, Darkweb and ToR browsers.

The Workshop for Judges and Prosecutors on Cybercrime and Electronic Evidence delivered by national trainers previously trained by the iPROCEED-2 project, targeted a different cohort, aiming at building participants’ foundational knowledge on cybercrime offences, digital evidence and online crime proceeds.

Representatives of the Delegation of the European Union to Serbia and of the EU Programme “Facility supporting Serbia in achieving the objectives of Chapter 24: Justice, Freedom and Security” attended the training and  explored possibilities of future co-operation.

The iPROCEEDS-2 project will continue to provide judicial training to magistrates in the project countries and increase their skills to co-ordinate cybercrime investigations and make more informed decisions in the prosecuted cases.
