After the first meeting on the development of Algerian Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), held on the 18th of November 2020, the Second online national meeting on the development of domestic SOPs and Toolkit for First Responders in Cybercrime Investigations and E-evidence took place on the 18th of February 2021.
Considering that Algerian’s SOPs on e-evidence are largely in line with the international standards, more information on the international guides on handling of e-evidence, and best practices for first responders on cybercrime investigations were shared, during this second meeting, by introducing the SOPs on electronic evidence, developed by the Council of Europe and the First Responder Toolkit, developed by the European Cybercrime Training and Education Group (ECTEG), the latter being showcased in the context of its use in Lebanon.
During the meeting, the Algerian law-enforcement representatives have shared more about their procedures for conducting cybercrime investigations and, in this way, they have also assessed their existing domestic practices, SOPs and guides on cybercrime investigations and e-evidence, and whether these are aligned with international standards.
The meeting was fruitful, regarding the acknowledgement, by the Algerian delegation, of the importance of the information and recommendations put forward. The CyberSouth project will continue to support Algeria in future activities, on this topic.
