Romania became Party to the Budapest Convention in 2004. Since then, Romania has exerted every possible effort to make the fight against cybercrime a national priority. The Establishment of DIICOT specialized in the organised crime, illegal drug trafficking, cybercrime, economic crime and financial crime, terrorism, has been a major asset thanks its role as a main authority for international cooperation.
The experience of Romania serves the work of the Cybercrime Convention Committee and is used as an example in the capacity building programmes of the Council of Europe.
