Côte d’Ivoire was invited on 30 June 2022 to accede to the Budapest Convention on Cybercrime. Thus, 82 States are now either Parties (66), or have signed it or been invited to accede (16).
The authorities of Côte d’Ivoire have been cooperating with the Council of Europe in cybercrime matters on multiple occasions since 2011. In 2013, Côte d’Ivoire passed Law 2013-451 on cybercrime, which brought domestic legislation largely in line with the Convention on Cybercrime.
Moreover, a T-CY (Cybercrime Convention Committee) mission to Abidjan in March 2019 – which included a series of meetings with key institutions and officials, including ministers, and a one-day workshop on the Cybercrime Convention – confirmed Côte d’Ivoire’s commitment to fight against cybercrime and intention to accede to the Budapest Convention.
Today, Côte d’Ivoire’s domestic legislation is largely in line with the Cybercrime Convention and specialised institutions have been established at the level of the police with close cooperation with the Computer Emergency Response Team.
