On 25 October 2024, the CyberSPEX project, a joint initiative of the European Commission and the Council of Europe, held an online workshop aimed at discussing the progress regarding the implementation of the Second Additional Protocol (2AP) to the Convention on Cybercrime by the EU Member States.
The meeting was attended by legislators, law enforcement officials, and judicial practitioners, as well as representatives of the relevant EU agencies such as Europol, Eurojust, CEPOL and the European Judicial Cybercrime Network.
The workshop offered EU Member States the opportunity to share information on progress made and next steps in the national process of implementation of the Second Protocol. The session also allowed to address the topic of competent authorities to be designated under Articles 6 and 7 of the 2AP versus those to be designated under the EU E-evidence Regulation.
Participants were briefed on the tools developed by CyberSPEX and identified new initiatives for future project support by the end of the meeting.
The workshop is part of a wider effort by the CyberSPEX project to support EU Member States in the implementation of the Second Additional Protocol, therefore further capacity building support will be provided under the project to enhance cooperation on cybercrime and electronic evidence.
