In February 2022, the French Parliament adopted a new law that criminalizes school and university bullying, including cyberbullying. Offenders can be sanctioned with a fine of up to 150,000 euros and imprisonment for up to 10 years.
The law also provides for search and seizure of stored computer data in view of obtaining digital evidence for the bullying offence.
