The Committee of Convention 108 (T-PD), held in Strasbourg from 14 to 16 June 2023, was particular fruitful.
First of all, the Committee witnessed, in real time, the 25th ratification of the Protocol amending the Convention for the Protection of Individuals with regard to the Processing of Personal Data (CETS No. 223), by Slovakia.
It also adopted two fundamental texts that already contribute to the implementation of Convention 108+ (both texts are being edited) :
- Guidelines on Data protection for the processing of personal data for anti-money laundering/countering financing of terrorism purposes;
- A first module of Model contractual clauses for transborder data flows of personal data, for data flows from data controller to data controller.
It brought together representatives from more than 70 countries and national and international institutions to continue the work begun under the 2022-2025 work programme of the Committee of Convention 108, notably on interpretation of article 11 of Convention 108+ and on Guidelines on data protection, including biometrics, within the framework of vote and elections .
Finally, the winners of both categories of the Stefano Rodotà 2023 Prize, Janis Wong, Sebastiao Bernardo Bruco Geraldes de Barros Vale and Katerina Demetzou, presented their respective award-winning work and received their trophees.
