A European Year of Digital Citizenship Education

At the 26th session of the Standing Conference of the Council of Europe, Ministers of Education will discuss the launch of the European Year of Digital Citizenship Education (DCEY2025) in 2025, which will aim to promote digital citizenship and digital literacy, including AI literacy, in educational institutions in all member States.

DCEY2025 will address the challenges and opportunities of the digital environment in education systems by empowering students to navigate the digital environment responsibly and ethically, with a particular focus on generative AI in education and in their everyday lives.

The Council of Europe Steering Committee for Education (CDEDU) will be responsible for operational planning, monitoring implementation, organising key events and evaluating impact across Europe. National committees will promote the initiative, coordinate activities, involve public institutions and cooperate with other national committees.

The Council will work with partner organisations and civil society organisations to increase the impact of DCEY2025.
