Council of Europe Secretary General, Marija Pejčinović Burić, Official Visit To Serbia

On 8-9 March 2022, Council of Europe Secretary General, Marija Pejčinović Burić, paid an official visit to the Republic of Serbia. During her visit, Secretary General met with the Prime Minister, Ministers of Foreign Affairs and European Integration as well as with the Speaker of the Parliament.

Secretary General also visited the Council of Europe office in Belgrade where she met the staff and also had an opportunity to learn about the Education programme that is being implemented in Serbia as part of the joint EU/CoE action Quality Education for All. She was informed about the latest, unique books for parents who seek to raise their children to be active citizens: Growing up in a democratic family: a manual for parents with sections on ages 6 – 10 and 11 – 14 and Living in a democratic family: a manual for parents of adolescents age 15 to 19

The books guide the reader through models of parenting, daily life of a family and different situations where democracy can be used to help children overcome problems. Even though primarily aimed at parents, the publications can also be used in schools and by education professionals. The books pioneered working with families based on the methodologies from the Reference Framework of Competences for Democratic Culture.
