The Digital Citizenship Education (DCE) Handbook, key reference resource on the Council of Europe’s concept of digital citizenship education, is now also available in German. The translation was carried out with funds from the Hessian Academy of Teacher Training and with the support of the Hessian Ministry of Education, Cultural Affairs and Chances and of the Austrian DCE Promoters, Ms Sigrid Steininger from the Austrian Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research and Ms Patricia Hladschik, Managing Director of Zentrum polis, the Austrian Centre for Citizenship Education in Schools, who will help disseminate the publication in their country.
The Digital Citizenship Education (DCE) Handbook presents the three pillars of the Council of Europe’s concept of digital citizenship education: “being online”, “well-being online” and “rights online”. The manual provides guidance on how to implement digital citizenship education in various education settings, including definitions on key terms and factsheets with examples of activities to be carried out in classrooms and at home.
The concept of digital citizenship education (DCE) builds on the Council of Europe Reference Framework of Competences for Democratic Culture (RFCDC) focusing on the skills, values, attitudes and knowledge applicable to the digital environment. The main aim of the project on Digital Citizenship Education at the Council of Europe is to support member states in developing targeted policy and practice to help learners become active digital citizens ready to drive forward the digital transformation.
