The Italian Ministry of Education and Merit (NRRP Mission Unit) has recently developed an online course on Digital Citizenship Education, which will become available on the Scuola Futura platform starting from 23 January 2025, as part of its activities to support the upcoming European Year of Digital Citizenship Education 2025.
The MOOC, developed by EFT (Territorial Training Teachers) in cooperation with the National Hub at the Italian Ministry of Education and Merit and the DCE Promoter, Ms. Giuseppina Russo, targets educators at all levels of education (kindergarten, primary school, lower secondary school, upper secondary school and adult education). The course introduces the key components of the Council of Europe’s concept of digital citizenship education including the 10 digital domains and it is structured around the three pillars of the framework: Being online, Well-being online and Rights online.
An interactive webinar will introduce each pillar. Educators can then study the materials at their own pace accessing key resources, presentations and videos. Examples of activities to use in the classrooms and good practices are also made available including national and international frameworks on digital citizenship education.
Through the online course, educators will have the opportunity to learn about digital citizenship, how to exercise it and teach it in their classrooms. By completing the online course, enrolled participants are actively contributing towards the achievements of the goals of the European Year of Digital Citizenship Education 2025.
