Preparations kick started for European Year of Digital Citizenship Education 2025

The DCE Promoters Network held its 7th plenary meeting in Strasbourg, on June 12 and 13 2024. This meeting marked the fifth anniversary of the Network and kick started the European Year of Digital Citizenship Education 2025.

DCE Promoters from 23 member states gathered to get acquainted with the key objectives of the European Year and had interactive discussions about the main activities, key messages addressing various target groups, ways of reaching out and engaging with stakeholders including policy makers, educators, parents and carers, students, civil society organisations and private sector companies.

Based on the ideas generated during the meeting, they will prepare a draft work plan for national implementation and co-ordinate with their ministries and relevant stakeholders to launch the preparations in their respective countries.  

 

DCE Promoters Network

The DCE Promoters Network was established in 2019 and has been working since then to promote digital citizenship education across Europe and contributing to the furthering of the Council of Europe’s work on DCE. They have carried out awareness raising initiatives, pilot projects, capacity building activities and contributed to the development, translation, adaptation and dissemination of Council of Europe resources on DCE. The Network comprises of 48 representatives from 28 member states.

 

European Year of Digital Citizenship Education 2025

The European Year of Digital Citizenship Education 2025 stands as a unique opportunity to enhance the visibility and impact of DCE and reaffirm its value. Its objectives include:

  • Awareness raising: Enhance understanding of digital citizenship and its importance in a democratic society
  • Mainstreaming DCE in education and training: Promote the integration of digital citizenship in formal and non-formal education
  • Stakeholder engagement: Involve diverse stakeholders in promoting DCE
  • International collaboration: Facilitate exchange and collaboration, for example via sharing sense-making practices.
