Back Scale of media literacy in Flanders

Scale of media literacy in Flanders

Increase Media Literacy is the main aim of 'Scale of M', a website that offers free teaching materials to get started with media wisdom in primary education during a game week. Launched in Flanders on 23 October, by Mediawijs, the Flemish Knowledge Centre for Digital and Media Literacy, it also challenges 5th and 6th grades with a competition to find the 'Most media-wise class'. Children can play along at home and in class. A lot of media-wise objectives are covered together with the link to the objectives from the Media Literacy Curriculum. There is a competition guide, a workbook and extra lessons that can be used throughout the schoolyear.

Media and Information Literacy is one of the 10 Domains in the Council of Europe's Digital Citizenship Education (DCE) project, which is designed to encourage children to develop their ability to critically understand and interpret digital media content, and to use digital technology to express their ideas.

Download the Media and Information Literacy Factsheet to explore ways that you can offer exciting opportunities to your children or students to develop their critical thinking and express their creativity.

The above good practices have been shared via the Digital Citizenship Education (DCE) Promoters Network, created in 2019 to facilitate the implementation of DCE in schools and other non-formal and/or informal learning contexts, and for its promotion at local, regional and national levels. DCE promoters have carried out numerous activities aimed at policymakers, teachers, students, teacher trainers, families and school inspectors.
