The Council of Europe organised the 5th Review Meeting on the Recommendation Rec(2004)11 on legal, operational and technical standards for e-voting on the 28th October, in Lochau, Austria. Representatives from several Member States as well as from international organisations worldwide and experts in the field of electronic voting and new voting technologies shared recent experiences and practices.

This meeting was of special relevance as it also allowed for the discussions on the preparatory works for an upcoming update of the Recommendation, which has been deemed as necessary in view of the recent technical and societal developments.

This meeting also benefited from synergies from the “EVOTE 2014” conference, which was held in the same venue. Conclusions of this meeting were also used as background materials for some of the more relevant conferences of the 2014 World Forum for Democracy in Strasbourg, on the 3rd to the 5th November.
