Project: HEALTH LITERACY
Organisation: Pressley Ridge
About the project
The World Health Organisation states that health literacy represents the cognitive and social skills which determine the motivation and ability of individuals to gain access to, understand, and use information in ways which promote and maintain good health.
The project idea is based on the creation of actions to promote health literacy and the right to access health services in populations of young immigrants living in disadvantaged contexts. It also intends to open a space for dialogue using non-formal education tools suitable for young people and to utilise digital platforms to promote the right of access to health services.
It aims to raise awareness and empower young people in health literacy to change risk behaviours through the adoption of health-promoting behaviours. It is based on 3 pillars of action: promoting health literacy in the community to contribute to disease prevention, sexual education and teenage pregnancy problems, and children’s rights.
