The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in cooperation with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) organised on 14-16 November 2023 the First Technical Workshop of the Global Fire Management Hub Workshop. It was attended in person by Professor Johann Goldammer, Director of the Global Fire Monitoring Centre (Freibourg, Germany) and the Executive Secretary of the Agreement delivered his remarks online. 

The Hub’s overarching goal is to enhance countries' capacities in implementing integrated fire management. The Global Fire Management Hub workshop followed up on the deliverables of the  8th International Wildland Fire Conference held in May 2023 in Porto, Portugal, which was attended by Professor Johann Goldammer and Dr Sofia Karma, Director of the Athens-based European Center for Forest Fires. The workshop, opened by Mr. Zhimin Wu, Director of the FAO Forestry Division, delved into crucial themes, including knowledge and data sharing, fire risk assessment, early warning systems, and the development of wildfire resilient communities.
