On 23-24 February, the Executive Secretary of EUR-OPA Major Hazards Agreement participated in a meeting on “Understanding and communicating existing and future risks: Ensuring evidence-based communication” organised in Bucharest, Romania by the Romanian Ministry of Interior in cooperation with the UNDRR, where he delivered a statement.
The meeting gathered around the same table, governmental, IGO and NGO representatives as well as other stakeholders from a large number of European and Mediterranean countries. The meeting provided an opportunity for deepening cooperation, in particular in the light of EUR-OPA’s current work on the use of social media, traditional media, big data and mobile phone networks, to support national measures for successful disaster risk communication.
