The EUR-OPA Major Hazards Agreement is organising its 14th Ministerial Meeting "Building More Inclusive Societies through Better Disaster Risk Management" on the 24th of November 2021.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the meeting will take place in a virtual format from Matosinhos, Portugal and will be hosted by the Portuguese Ministry of Internal Affairs.

As natural and man-made disasters are getting more frequent and with unprecedent impacts worldwide, new challenges, like Covid-19, highlight the need to adapt policies and ensure an inclusive approach in preparedness and response to disasters. Europe and the Mediterranean have been increasingly facing the dramatic impacts of disasters and must therefore be ready to protect citizens and face adversities together. In this context, it is proposed to debate at the Ministerial Meeting the following topics:

  • How to ensure the inclusion of vulnerable groups in preparing for and responding to disasters?
  • How to develop EUR-OPA’s actions to meet the new challenges posed by natural, technological and biological hazards?
