Multi-hazards early warning systems and disaster risk information
BE-ALERT
A national secure platform accessible to local authorities to warn and inform the population during (potential) emergency situations. Messages are sent with a unique identifier (trustful source) through multiple possible channels (vocal, text, e-mail, fax, …). It is based on subscription (opt-in), but it is possible as well to send a text message within a geographical area (even without subscription). This way, we can reach both inhabitants as people who happen to be in the area. Operational since June 2017.

Risk info
A national public website with information concerning multiple risks. Local authorities can use this information for their own communication channels, in order to sensitize the public to the local situation and give recommendations. Operational since 2015, new actions have been undertaken in 2017. A national campaign on the nuclear risk is planned in 2018.
Team D5
Belgian inhabitants can count on a team of motivated communication workers. “Team D5” is a network of communication collaborators who work mostly in local authorities or in emergency services. They are now 50 people, all trained in the same methodology to support local authorities in their crisis communication to the public. The national Crisis Center () co-ordinates the training and the activation of the team. Team D5 is operational since 2014. In 2017, they received an international award for their support during the terrorist attacks in Brussels (March 2016).
