On 28-30 May 2024, the Executive Secretary participated in the 3rd Technical Workshop of the Global Fire Management Hub held in Rome, organised at the initiative of FAO and UNEP.
The Global Fire Management Hub provides the basis for developing a consent-based international instrument - a “Charter on the International Landscape Fire Management Framework”, which aims to streamline the effectiveness and efficiency of international cooperation towards enhancing governance in landscape fire management at local, national, regional and international level. The hub relies on the expertise of the Global Fire Monitoring Centre, one of the most active centres of the EUR-OPA Network of Specialised scientific centres, whose Director, Prof. Johann Goldammer, was also in attendance.
The meeting served to promote the visibility of the Agreement and raised the awareness of the Council of Europe’s engagement in the protection of the environment.
