2009 - Ankara

The Ankara townAnkara, which is located in central Anatolia, is the capital of Turkey and the country’s second-largest city after Istanbul.  Ankara is both a modern and an ancient city, which has many Roman remains and a well-preserved Byzantine fortress.

Through its 40 twinnings worldwide, Ankara has developed an extensive network of international contacts and the Cultural Days which it holds every year reflect the great store it sets in the development of cultural relations. Above all, however, it is through major international conferences that it helps to strengthen friendship and understanding between peoples.
