1976 - Devon County Council

The Devon County Council townDevon, formerly Devonshire, is a county in the south-west of England, flanked by Cornwall to the west and Dorset and Somerset to the east. This is where England cultivates the finest sources of its architectural and natural heritage.

For the first time in history a local authority, namely a county council, was honoured with the Europe Prize in recognition of the numerous twinning links established between itself and the Calvados general council. Over 41 towns and villages in Devon are twinned with towns and villages in Calvados and Brittany, the Landkreis of Ültzen, and other regions in Europe and the world at large.
