1986 - Klagenfurt
The city of Klagenfurt am Wörthersee, the capital of the province of Carinthia, lying close to Austria’s border with Italy and Slovenia, is famous for its palaces, lodges, houses, churches and convents, which date from various eras and are built in Gothic, Baroque, Rococo and Classical styles.
It stands out particularly for the extent of its twinning network of no less than 15 towns in both eastern and western Europe and worldwide, which maintain friendly relations with Klagenfurt. Many sporting, musical and other associations ensure that the twinnings run smoothly.
