The Rhodes townRhodes is the capital of the Greek island of Rhodes, the largest island of the Dodecanese in the Aegean Sea. “Island of the Blessed” (Insula macaria), daughter of Poseidon, consort of Apollo, its subtle atmosphere has lured visitors since the remotest antiquity.

The mediaeval town of Rhodes, locally known as Old Town, enclosed in the perimeter of high ramparts and built in the time of the Knights of Rhodes, was declared a heritage of mankind by UNESCO in 1988.

The town is twinned at European level with the towns of Braunfels (Germany), Conches (France), Avila, Palma de Mallorca and Roses (Spain), Valetta (Malta), Limassol (Cyprus), Visby, island of Gotland (Sweden), and Pisa (Italy), and worldwide with the town of Greece (United States), Perth (Australia), Rhode Island State (United States), Puebla (Mexico) and Yalta (Crimea).
