Würzburg is a German town in Bavaria, built on the River Main in the southern German province of Lower Franconia. It contains the biggest ecclesiastical palace ever built, which sealed Würzburg’s dedication to tourism with a Mozart festival as renowned as its many wine festivals. This town manage to raise itself up after being virtually annihilated during the war, relying on a long scholastic and university tradition to build on the future.
Würzburg has constantly developed and strengthened numerous twinning arrangements in Europe and worldwide with Bray (Ireland), Caen (France), Dundee (United Kingdom), Mwanza (Tanzania), Otsu (Japan), Rochester (United States), Salamanca (Spain), Suhl (Germany), Trutnov (Czech Republic) and Umeå (Sweden), forming ever closer ties.
