The High-Level Conference on the European Social Charter, to be held in Vilnius on 4 July 2024, is organised under the auspices of the Lithuanian Chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers.
This event is an important step towards strengthening commitments under the European Social Charter and it is in line with the objectives of the Reykjavik Declaration, in which Heads of State and Government reaffirmed their commitment to the protection and implementation of social rights as guaranteed by the European Social Charter system and emphasised the importance of social justice for democratic stability and security.
The conference will bring together ministers and senior officials from Council of Europe member states, as well as representatives from various Council of Europe bodies, including the Parliamentary Assembly, the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities, the Commissioner for Human Rights and the European Court of Human Rights. Representatives from the European Commission, the Fundamental Rights Agency, the International Labour Organisation, the United Nations and other key international bodies will also be present. Participants will also include members of civil society, social partners, academics, national human rights institutions and equality bodies and their pan-European networks. The Committee of Governmental Experts and the European Committee of Social Rights will also be present.
The High-Level Conference aims to foster dialogue and cooperation among Council of Europe member states and to reaffirm the Council of Europe's commitment to promoting social justice and upholding social rights.
More information is available on the conference website, including the programme and the list of speakers.
