Information event on social rights : the Reform of the Charter System and related questions

Today, the Department of Social Rights organised an event with representatives from Permanent representations of members states of the Council of Europe in Strasbourg. This thematic presentation reflected all sides of the strategic triangle of the Council of Europe - standard-setting, monitoring and cooperation, and focused on the work in the context of the implementation of Committee of Ministers decisions on the reform of the Social Charter system.

Aoife Nolan, the President of the European Committee of Social Rights,  Aongus Horgan, Chairperson of the Governmental Committee, the European Social Charter Secretariat as well as Christophe Poirel, Human Rights Director, were present to share facts and insights about Council of Europe social rights work. The ECSR annual activity report for 2022 was also presented on this occasion.

The event offered an opportunity to better understand the complexity, the workload and the needs of the Charter’s system, to exchange views and ask questions, and discuss possible ways of reinforcing the respect for social rights in the Council of Europe space.
