On this year’s World Health Day, the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Alain Berset, issued a statement emphasising that Health is a fundamental right linked to living conditions, environment and a cornerstone of social justice.
These goals strongly echo the principles enshrined in the European Social Charter, which guarantees the right to protection of health (Article 11) and access to social and medical assistance (Article 13), as outlined in the new factsheet on Health and the Charter .
The European Committee of Social Rights (ECSR) continues to monitor the implementation of these rights, calling on states to address disparities in healthcare access, particularly for vulnerable populations including children, older people, people with disabilities, women, migrants, etc.
