Publication of a new multimedia-based e-handbook on the “Fundamental Economic, Social and Cultural Rights of Europe”

The former President of the European Committee of Social Rights, Professor (emer.) Matti Mikkola, has published a new multimedia-based online handbook on the “Fundamental Economic, Social and Cultural Rights of Europe” (Legisactio LTD publishers).

The handbook is a multimedia based systematic guide to European fundamental rights and standards (ESC rights) in the areas of individual and collective labour relations; social and health law as well as education, based on three European treaties: the European Convention of Human Rights, the European Social Charter and the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union.

The handbook is based on a contextual approach and includes brief presentations of and links to around 500 carefully selected judgments, decisions and conclusions derived from all three key European legal bodies: the European Court of Human Rights, the European Committee of Social Rights and the Court of Justice of the European Union.

In addition to linking to the HUDOC and EUR-Lex databases, the handbook also serves as an electronic library, providing easy online access to relevant preparatory works, official publications and other useful online material.  The handbook also includes nine interviews with European social rights experts on key issues and challenges.

The Handbook content will be regularly updated to include the most recent and relevant legal norms, making it an ideal tool for practising lawyers, judges, government officials, academics, civil society experts and concerned citizens who need to stay abreast of the fundamental ESC rights of Europe.
