On 12-13 June a delegation of the Execution Department held bilateral meetings in Geneva with Ms Mariana Katzarova, the Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Russia, as well as with the Secretariat of the United Nations Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances (UNWGEID) and the Human Rights Council and Treaty Mechanisms Division.
Recalling the recent Reykjavik Declaration of the Heads of State and Government of the member States, affirming the need to make every effort to ensure the execution of the Court’s judgments by the Russian Federation, including through the development of synergies with other international organisations such as the United Nations (UN); the resolution of the United Nations General Assembly adopted in April 2023 on cooperation between the UN and the COE, as well as the Committee of Ministers’ instructions to the Execution Department to enhance its co-operation with the UN bodies, the bilateral meetings focused on exploring ways to coordinate efforts to ensure that the Russian Federation complies with its binding international law obligation to execute judgments of the European Court.
