In order to support the process of transposing into Greek legislation the EC Directive (EU) 2024/1069 on protecting persons who engage in public participation from manifestly unfounded claims or abusive court proceedings (‘Strategic lawsuits against public participation – SLAPPs), the Task Force on the Protection, Safety and Empowerment of Journalists and Media Professionals (established in July 2022) was transformed into a permanent working group of organised and structured dialogue on SLAPPs, between Governmental and Civil Society bodies. Furthermore, the Ministry of Justice established a SLAPPs Observatory to monitor incidents of concern. It is tasked with collection of data, communication with those affected by this type of situations, will provide assistance and formulate position-statements.
