In October 2024, the Ministry of the Interior published its biannual report on acts of intimidation against journalists for 2024. In the six months under review, the Italian Police reported 46 incidents of intimidation against media professionals, representing no change compared to the first six months of 2023. Six were attributed to organized crime, 26 events took place in specific socio-political contexts, and 14 were due to other contexts.
Regarding modus operandi, 13 acts of intimidation were carried out via the web channel. Social networks, particularly Facebook, were the most used, with a total of 5 events. Otherwise, 10 episodes of damage to equipment or other damage (e.g. workplaces) were reported, 8 verbal threats, 7 physical assaults, 8 written intimidations, 2 sending of threatening item. A total of 38 incidents involving individuals were recorded, with 11 occurring against women and 27 against men.
