Mr Patrick Penninckx, Head of the Information Society Department at the Council of Europe addressed the audience of an online monthly chat of the European Data Journalism Network on 12 May 2021. He presented the latest developments and challenges of the digital world and outlined the role of the Council of Europe in protecting human rights online. He focussed in particular on recent developments in the regulation on artificial intelligence and data protection. Replying to questions, he provided specific recommendations on ensuring journalists' cybersecurity and protecting privacy while implementing vaccine passes in the current COVID-19 pandemic context.
The event was organised by the Osservatoria Balcani e Caucaso Transeuropeo, an important Italian research and media organisation, as a part of a series on Data Protection and Information Society.
