8th Internet Governance Forum – GeoIGF 2022 held with the support of the Council of Europe

The 4-day conference was held in a hybrid format and hosted up to 20 thematic panel discussions. The GeoIGF 2022 gathered up to 45 speakers and 90 registered participants from public, private, civil society, and academic institutions. Topics discussed ranged from media literacy and disinformation to information security, personal data protection, multilingualism and AI, and ethics. This annual conference represents one of the major platforms for internet stakeholders to meet each other, exchange about their respective work and discuss legal and policy related tendencies in the field. It is also a good opportunity for stakeholders to liaise and coordinate the future actions.

This year’s GeoIGF community was further widened through the active engagement of youth. An agenda adapted to the points of interest for youth was designed.

The Georgian Internet Governance Forum (GeoIGF) is an annual conference established in 2015 and represents the most important platform for facilitating multistakeholder dialogue and cooperation in the field of electronic communications and information technology development. Each year, the event is hosted by the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, the Georgian National Communications Commission, and the Internet Society (ISOC) – Georgia. The conference is coordinated by the Georgian Telecommunications Operators Association (TOA) with the support of the Council of Europe, Internet Society (ISOC), the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) and the Coordination Committee of the RIPE Network (RIPE NCC).

The activity was held in the framework of the Project “Strengthening Media Freedom, Internet Governance and Personal Data Protection in Georgia”, which is funded by the Council of Europe 2020-2023 Action Plan for Georgia.
