Slovenian Justice Minister discusses cooperation priorities in Strasbourg

On 30 November 2022, Dominika Švarc Pipan, Minister of Justice of the Republic of Slovenia, met with Patrick Penninckx, Head of the Information Society Department of the Council of Europe in Strasbourg. The two sides discussed the key priorities on the bilateral cooperation agenda, such as ratification of the Modernised Data Protection Convention (Convention 108+), which is expected to be finalised in February 2023 and signature of the Second Additional Protocol of the Cybercrime Convention on e-evidence which took place on the same day. They also examined the constructive role Slovenia plays in the development of the Convention on Artificial Intelligence, and the need to promote an open approach, inclusive of countries which share the same values, such as the USA, Canada, Japan, Mexico and Israel. Finally the two officials expressed support for the forthcoming Council of Europe Campaign on the Protection of Journalists and, in particular, for the establishment of a national campaign committee in Ljubljana.
